Sleep Apnea Treatment
As part of our commitment to total health dentistry, we provide sleep apnea treatment. Sleep apnea is a serious health condition that involves cessations of breathing throughout the night. These “apneas” can occur hundreds of times each night. Each apnea will cause the sufferer to temporarily wake up because of lack of oxygen, but most people don’t realize that they wake up during the night because they often go right back to sleep. Sleep apnea prevents you from achieving a deep sleep, which often makes you feel drowsy during the day. You may suffer from sleep apnea if you experience one or more of the following:
- Loud and/or frequent snoring
- Waking up short of breath during the night
- Headaches when you wake in the morning
- Choking or snorting at night
- Drowsiness during the day
- Insomnia or difficulty going to sleep
When left untreated, sleep apnea has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, heart failure, and stroke. There are a variety of treatments available for sleep apnea, including the C-PAP or C-PAP alternatives. In many cases, your medical insurance can cover sleep apnea treatment, so there is no reason not to receive the help you need. If you suffer from any of the above symptoms, please call or visit our office in Stony Brook today. Dr. Reichman is proud to provide sleep apnea treatment to those in Smithtown, Nesconset, St. James, and the other areas surrounding Stony Brook.
